He hails from Bibile the Veddha country, the land of the aborigines of Sri Lanka. A passionate bird watcher would say, the land of the Painted Francolin and the Yellow footed Green Pigon. His intimate knowledge runs into birds and other wildlife and also cultural aspects, such as Buddhist temples and Hindu shrines.

Later he picked up the nitty gritty of natural history when he joined the park service. He is what you call a complete out-door man. His keen sight and acute hearing can simply astound even the best of birders. |
A wildlife artist, Naturalist, researcher and a wildlife photographer. He got into birding and wildlife studies at a very young stage of life, about 18-19 years ago. This early interest that has been his passion of life now made him a professional in this field. As an active member of several conservation organizations of Sri Lanka he has led several wildlife researches in addition to being an instructor for a birds study group. He has published several articles on birdlife, aquatic and wild life of Sri Lanka. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Fisheries and Marine Science. As a professional wildlife artist in Sri Lanka He has illustrated several publications and his artwork can be seen in his website-www.tharangaherath.com. After obtaining the National Tourist Guide lecturer license issued by the Ceylon Tourist Board he is now a professional Tour leader with his 6 years experience in birding and wildlife tourism.
